Well I think it's official. The scallops have all been picked up at Keaton. After a fruitless morning of fishing we got in the water for about an hour (moving several times) and we got 7 scallops(not a typo) The grass looks to be covered in silt and no scallops to be found. Every boat I saw had 3-5 people just sitting there(looking bored) and one diehard in the water. Good thing it opened early as we have many in the freezer. Guess it's time to get the foodplots ready and wait for cooler weather for fishing and hunting.

We were a little more successful than that, but the scallops were very thin and most we found were old mossy backs that were hard to pick out. When I was through cleaning, we had a quart bag nearly full of meat. I am not complaining, because I was the only one on the boat who knows how to clean scallops and I cleaned all I wanted to clean.

Yeah, they were never really thick this year, but the last time I went was a complete bust. Shame, I was planning on filling up the freezer this year since I was out most of scallop season last year. Same from Keaton all the way to Steinhatchee

Where did you end up going and how long did it tsake you to get what you got?

We moved three times. The first stop was off of Eagle Point in front of the northern most big house. The second stop was about 2 miles south of the Keaton canal and that is where we found the most. The third stop was off of grassy island where it was a little deeper so the boys could dive off of the boat. Seemed like everyone from Steinhatchee was at stop #3 judging by the rental boats.

Has it really come to hunting for the trophy scallop?
We're going this weekend but I don't think anybody cares whether they get a bunch. Sometimes it ain't the fish, or bivalves, your after.
