A Lazy Sunday at the Cape

Well, after having to read all these good fishing reports while I worked the last 4 weekends, I decided to cast off the shackles and head to the Cape this weekend. Needed to do some checking and housekeeping after the summer rentals were done, so I spent Saturday checking things, cleaning owner's closets, making lists, doing repairs and dreaming about Sunday. It seems that it was a good idea to put cheap rod'n reels in the owner's closest for renters, because both were locked down tight and didn't seem to have been washed the first time.
I had decided I was too tired to fool with the old Pro this weekend, so I called Presnell's and booked Cap'n Fred for Sunday morning. Meet at the dock at 8 and headed out on St. Joe Bay. God's great gift to the panhandle of Florida. Winds were really light and the tide was moving good when we got out there. Drifted the pot hole region throwing jigs with old man grubs. Caught a lot of shorts and lizard fish with a keeper thrown in here and there. When I consistently caught more fish than Fred, he switched my grub to the ugliest one in his box. I showed him and continued my dominance. My son refused to wear polarized glasses to see the holes and repeatedly asked where they were. I told him to just chunk in right behind Fred, because Fred had set the drift to get to the hole first.
He learned quick and soon was competing with Fred for every hole we drifted to. When the tide quit, the wind died and the bite was over. Saw a really large shark behind Black's Island. I thought it was a big bull, but Fred was sure it was a Tiger. Ended up with some nice fat trout and few door mats in the box before ending our 4 hour tour.
Saw a couple of older gents from Alabama in a sweet looking Hewes. Fred said their names were Billy and Bob. I asked Fred if they were twins and their momma had split their name. I think that one flew over Fred's head.
As always, we had a great time fishing with Fred. What a great character!
