Well I had not met Sir Reel until Saturday and by the end of the day was very glad I did.

I started my Saturday at 4AM getting ready to leave for the Ecofina fishing tournament. I usually have a hard time making it out to these so I was very excited despite the lack of sleep for the last three nights. Making the mourning that much harder.
Got to the ramp at around 6 and met up with everyone. Signed up and out of the river around 7:15. I made a turn to the west as I have never fished east of the Ecofina so I went to familiar grounds. Fish were hitting the top all around. Going to be a good day I decided. The first fish was a short red, another good sign I thought. The next cast proved to be the turning point for the day. I caught about a 2 pound catfish on top water. After boating the fish and being upset that it was a catfish I reached down to get him off and start back for real fish. As soon as I got close to him he jump and stuck the treble hook though my finger.

Now with mt finger firmly hooked and the catfish has the other treble hook in his mouth I had to hold the fish with one hand and the lure is hooked in the other. Basically handcuffed with hooks. Now I fish these tournaments alone because my son is in Texas so I am in real trouble. I cannot unhook the fish and cannot cut the hook off the lure. I looked around and saw a boat fairly close so I set the trolling motor to warp speed and made a bee line for it. I normally hate it when someone comes up on me when I am fishing so I started with an apology when I got close to their boat.

It turned out to be Sir Reel. Now I pride myself on having a well stocked boat to fish out of but I pail in comparison to Sir Reel. Not only did he have the tools to free me but he also had peroxide for the wound and a Doctor on board. Now that's what I call READY for anything!!! We cut my hand loose and pulled the barb out of my finger. Then released the fish and I went back to fishing wondering what would I have dine had he not been there.

My greatest thanks to Sir Reel and his partner the doctor. You made my day. I did not place or even was close but I got meet some really great people and spend a day on the water. What more could you ask for.

Good afternoon Reel Catch.

Sure glad we were close enough to help you out. I have to say that I've never seen anyone handcuffed the way you were and able to handle the trolling motor at the same time plus stay calm while let'n strangers do a hook extraction. The Doctor by the way was none other than RHTFISH. :D

What Reel Catch left off his report was that aprox 40 min later, my partner hooks up with a Blue Fish. I'm in the middle of tying on a top dog and drop everything to head to the front of the boat with the net. Somehow I must have gotten ny shoe tangled with the line I was working on and the next thing I know, I've got the front treble hooked in the side of my left leg on the inside of the knee...and the back treble is hooked threw my pants leg on the right leg just above the ankle! :smt011 Now picture this... there's aprox 16 or so inches difference in elevation between the location of the hook in my leg and the hook in the material on the other leg. This makes it extreemely difficult to stand up in any position where the bottom hook don't pull like a son of a gun on the meat that's hooked up on the other end. The ballet lessons my Momma made me take as a boy finally paid off cause the only way I could stand was to stoop over on my left leg and stand on my tip toe on the right leg and try to stand as still as possible in a boat. I was able to reach into my pocket and retrieve my knife and get the material cut away from the right leg to get some relief. By this time my partner has realized that I AIN"T COMING WITH THE NET! :o After he landed his own fish, we manage to find a pair of scissors and cut the material away from the hook that is firmly embedded in my left leg. I could see the point of the hook just barely come'n through so I tried to push it on through so we could cut the barb off or at least bend it down. The problem was that there was so much meat bunched up on the hook that you couldn't get any more on it and it wouldn't come on through. Next step ... position the hook so it was as straight a path as possible and JERK like heck. Out comes the hook and what a ya know...there's a bottle of proxide still on the console. A couple of quick splashes and we're back to fishing. If there was a silver linning it was that the plug involved was one that I worked on the evening before and the treble was brand new...never been in the water...never had any fish slobber on it. I did manage to get my revenge however, cause I put on a new split ring...and new front treble...started throwing the dog and caught a nice trout and then a really nice 26 1/2 inch red that weighted in at 6.18 or something like that. Wasn't good enough to hit the redfish pot but sure made some nice chunks for the fryer. :lick: Me and Reel Catch are just Hooke'd on Fish'n I guess :smt012

If I were worried about scaring off potential partners, I don't know if I'd be bringing up the ballet lessons. :smt005
