Fallen Marine

He was my brother. Because we had the same father, and also because we both belonged to a fraternity of brotherhood that only a few will ever know. We were both United States Marines. He was former Marine SSgt. George F. Hillhouse. Two tours in Vietnam in 1967 and 1968. Awarded two Purple Hearts, Cross of Galantry, and the Navy/ Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat V, among his many awards. He was a Drill Instructor, a Tunnel Rat, and the best older brother a man could ask for. He died doing what he loved. He had a massive heart attack sitting in his tree stand. We buried him today at the Carlton Cemetery in Perry Florida. He was laid to rest with a full Marine Corps Honor Guard, and me, his little brother standing guard over his body until I was sure he was home. I'll miss him greatly, but I know that tonight he is checking in for duty with the Lord for the ultimate duty station. Guarding the Gates of Heaven with my father, Marine Sgt Frank J. Hillhouse and all the other Marine brothers that have gone before us.

Semper Fi, big brother
Rest in Peace.
