Man the water was CLEAR on Saturday. Fished some in the River between the Fort and Lighthouse. Nada. Went up East River. Ended up catching about 30 reds, about half in the slot and the rest shorts. Also snagged a mullet with a jig head.

Judging by the number of bouys, the crabs must be running big time right now. Guess that's why the reds are so thick.

Crawfish, where you using live shrimp. I fished St. Marks on New Years Day and had a very bad day. We fished SWA's (all colors) top water plugs, suspending baits. Started to tie the tackle box on my line and let them pick what they wanted. I wound up catching one short red and the wife had one explode on a top dog but it missed the lure and never came back. It was a beautiful day to be on the water even if the fish couldn't find me.

Have you been up-river from the Fort? Reds you caught e-m-c sounded like a lot of fun. Chalk and me found Reds stacked up like that a few weeks ago.

Da reds were caught on da shrimp. They didn't want anything else.

Yep, that other boat what anchored 30 foot from us and exactly where we just pulled off from, commenced to hollering and pulling one "Mullet" after another in on them live shrimp. For about an hour.

got a couple questions for you if your agreeable. My son and I went into the East River the Friday after Christmas for the first time. Having never been in the river before I was sort of feel'n my way around the bars. We fished both sides pretty well (mirror lures and jigs) with no activity. I have no idea just how far you could travel up the river. How far were you up into the river and what kind of water do you look for? I would guess we were perhaps half to three quarters a mile back in before we turned around and started back out. I saw some pretty deep holes when ever I came across the main channel. I seem to remember Chalk saying something about throwing across the holes and working back slow through the deep spots. Also, how were you fishing the shrimp, freeline, weighted on the bottom, under a cork, ?? Thanks.

You were in the right spot -- close to the mouth fishing the bars on each side (in the summer, it seems to actually be best just outside of the mouth of the river). I put the shrimp on a naked jighead, anywhere from 1/8 to 1/2 ounce, depending on the strength of the tide and depth of the water (more tide + deeper water = heavier jighead). No cork. I don't really look for any particular water, just oyster bars. Good luck!!
