Showboat, I don't think it intimidates them at all. As of today...there are reportedly over 600 individuals that have been captured and being held for ransom. Our Country doesn't seem to have the same interest or willingness to get involved on behalf of US citizens in this type of circumstance like it once did. Gota play nice and use diplomacy you know...

Initially is was deemed as a justification for income because of foreign fishing vessels depleting their fish stocks.
Also foreign vessels dumping hazardous waste further destroying their ocean eco-system.
However,the evolution of the pirates indicate most are teenagers that never fished in the first place.
Their "booty" is being spent on alcohol,prostitutes,drugs,flashy cars and massive houses.
Somalia lacks a formal government and is controlled by regional warlords.
The weapons and ordinance are coming from Yemen and Jordan and are Russian made.

Because much of the Somalia claimed ocean is more heavily patrolled by U.N. naval forces,the pirates are venturing well outside their area to continue the plunder.
To me this removes any supposed justification for damage to sovereign waters.

Kill 100 pirates for each and ask them if they wanna go again sometime.

Its time to send some special ops ashore and let the pirate population awake one morning to about 100 gaping neck wounds and a warning note!
