March 17-Drag Screamin

Fished this morning with my buddy Webber. My goal was to get on some decent reds since we whacked the spanish yesterday and caught trout and spanish the day before. I figured that if I went back to the Fort, we might stick some trout and reds, and if we went back to Oyster Bay, it would be trout and spanish. Partly because I wanted to see red and partly because of the morning low tide, I chose to start out at the Fort. We ran out the river to my first hole and quickly caught a puppy red. About 15 minutes later I set the hook into a good fish, either a big trout or decent red. I get the fish to the boat and it was a 24 inch red. We caught one more puppy in this spot before moving on. As we worked the rest of my holes in the area, the bite got slower and we only managed 2 more puppy reds. It was only 11 so I decided we should run back to the fort, pull the boat out and put it back in at our Oyster Bay ramp. When we finally got to our spot out of Oyster Bay it didn't take long to start producing fish. I hooked a big spanish that I lost boatside. For about an hour and a half we caught fish, ending up with 12 keeper spanish. We also caught a barely short trout, a bluefish, and a few black sea bass. All fish today were caught on shrimp. This caps off 3 days in which my partners and I have caught 32 keepers. Respool your reels, sharpen your hooks, do whatever you have to do because the flats explosion will be in full swing before you know it. I am headin back west tomorrow for a weekend at Orange Beach with my family, then Monday I start classes again. Maybe me and my Dad can get on some early runnin pomps this weekend. I'll be lucky if I find a weekend to get back here and fish before summer but I don't think my soccer schedule will alow it. I will be done with classes and home for summer around the end of April, can not wait!
