I posted the following on a few other boating websites but have came up empty with hits, was wondering if anyone has anything to add.

I have a 2003 Suzuki DF140. The tilt/trim is starting to act up. If I start let it sit a day or so without using it, The tilt and trim will be very slow until I fully trim it down and let the trim motor fun freely once is gets at the bottom or I can just go up all the way and let it run for a few seconds. Then the unit seems to work fine until I wait a few hours to days. It seems like it is getting quite worse as time goes on. I The electric motor seems very slow itself when I first start using it. I checked the wiring and terminals on the battery for loose connections. Sometimes I have to hit the switch a couple times before it will start moving but I can hear the solenoid clicking. Like I said these problems only happen when there is longer period of nonoperation. Like 6 hours to a few days. Do you think this would be motor related? I am thinking it may be the brushes in the motor. Can you remove the motor without taking off the pump cylinder assembly, it says to do this in the manual but does not look like it is totally necessary.

Also to add, didnt see any water in the fluid. All connections seemed good to the eye, I am going to straight wire the pump to a battery this evening to make sure it is not a connection problem. I may try to take the pump off without removing the whole trim assembly tonight also, probably a bad idea since I plan to fish Sunday however.

Thanks for the help...

Direct wire the motor to a good hot battery by-passing all switches.
If the motor and pump operate correctly doing this, all switches and wiring connections must be examined and repaired.
Pay close attention to all ground connections.

Ended up taking the motor off at lunch today, found some heat/corrosion damage to one of the terminals where a lead wire connects to the stud for the brush in the motor. Taking it to a local repair guy to see what he can do, I found an aftermarket unit for about 200.00 compared to 500-600 to the oem motor if that does not pan out. Hope this is the problem and not a valve or something inside the cylinder housings.
