Wow... I've taken off twice with the power pole fully deployed and thought I would have broken it but didn't hurt a thing... Guess I don't have to worry if I do it again... and forget the power pole...get an i-Pilot Minn Kota trolling motor..the spot anchor function will hold you in the same spot at any depth.

I bought a Minn Kota Talon Friday night but haven't had a chance to install it yet as I need the stand off bracket as well to get past the trim tabs.
It's electric, no hydraulic pump to go out
It's wired such that when you crank the motor, it gives you an alarm if it's down (dummy proof)
It comes standard with Power Pole options (remotes, rough water mode, etc...) which makes it cheaper than a PP tricked out.
It's as quiet if not more so than the PP
Lifetime warranty on the stake and better overall warranty than the PP

1 person can carry the box with everything in it and still drink a beer while walking/measuring it out on the transom. I can get the weight off the box when I get home tonight but it's not as much as I had thought it would be.
I've just got to figure out which stand-off bracket I need and run 1 wire. She'll be set up.

I've also heard (pertaining to trim tabs) "It's hydraulic, so no electric motor to go out" but this may be different. Where is the electric motor on the Talon and where is the hyraulic pump on the PP?

Not sure about the electric motor but the hydraulic pump mounts remotely on the power pole. Mine in both boats is located in a rear hatch and the lines run to the cylinder on the powerpole. My remote sensor just went out for the second time on my Maverick. Emailed powerpole today. Ill let yall know how the service dept there is. Last time was pretty good. Had my parts in a week. Had to pay for them and then get a credit after they determined it was a warrantable deal.

I dropped the boat off today for the install, so we'll see how that goes.
Drill 4 holes and run 1 wire. If I contort my big arse around inside the hull, I could've done it but knowing one's limitations ain't a bad thing.
As far as the electric motor goes, the whole unit is self contained. But if it did go out, a 7/16" ratchet will pull it back up and it stays there. A PP would've been nice but lack of room for the pump, issues I know of with the remote box plus the deal I got on the system itself made it an easy decision for me.
