Don gave me the invite to fish with him in the caddilac of flats boats outta st marks today and I gladly obliged. We left the new lighthouse ramp (which by the way will not be user friendly to guys fishing solo) at 0900 and headed to catch the outgoing on some shallow stuff for reds. About 15 minutes into fishing at 924am Don hooks a nice red. A few long runs and some dancing around the Maverick and i netted the 26.5" 6.5lb toad. A round of high fives and a  and were back to fishing. Cant find another to finish out the limit so we head to trout country and proceeded to not catch a whole he** of a lot for the next two hours. The last 5 times i have been outta st marks this past month it had been really tough getting trout, so i figured this may happen. We moved out to 8 ft back to 3 ft out to 5 and back to 4. Didnt matter, topwater, gulp inder a cork, gulp on its own, sub surface hard baits, didnt matter. Went as far east as cobb rocks and back as far west as the flats in front of stony. Thought about going to the west flats around pattys isl but didnt want waste the gas at 4$ a gallon. By noon we only had added 2 spanish to 20" and an 18" trout to go with our sweet tourney red. Decided the heck with the flats and headed out to 20ft of water to a spot weve got around some rocky live bottom. After soaking some pins in the chum slick we had 3 really big run but were cut off all three times. We thought for sure one of them was a cobe caus we caught a glimpse of her on the strike. Don decided to chunk a gulp and while waiting for another big run and got the guy that would make our northwest florida super slam, an 18" flounder. A red, trout, and flounder make a slam, put a spanish with them and its a super slam..lol..i guess :-D ...anyways had a blast and cant wait to do it again. Anybody have any idea about the flats. I cant rememeber a time in the past 10 years when trout fishing has been this slow in the months of april and may???? -tight lines

Last year my trout season was like that, this year has been better than I have ever had! Last 3-4 weeks I've boated more 4lb trout than I can remember in several years.Sat at the club tournament we had a fair stringer and then Sun. caught another 10 lbs and a 25 in red before 9:30.Fished the same holes a week before and nothing. I know its hard for most to do but all my good fishing has been on a rising or high tide at sun rise, can't beat the peace and quiet that time of day, thats the only way I can fish through the summer.Pre daylight to about 10:00-10:30 then off the water.Water over the bars is key for me and the fact I can't use my ramp at a lower tide. :D
