Is anyone fishing the open series tournament this weekend mentioned in the other threads? I didnt see where many showed interest. I missed the rocky's tournament so wanted to try this one if there would be a decent turnout. Was there anymore info on the start times? I am assuming daylight but where and when do you register?

i've heard of some of the teams that were in the rocky's tourney are also fishing this weekend.the captains meeting is friday at 7pm at fiddlers in steinhatchee.the weigh in will be at keaton beach at 3pmand i was told you can put out anywhere.the rules i have heard so far you can fish for trout in one division or redfish in another or both if u want.the cost for one is 100$ or 200$ for both.the payouts are gonna be based on how many boats fish but that could also change if people wanna pay out more to say the top teams from what the man told me this will be discussed at the captains meeting friday night.

I'd consider it except from Tallahassee that's a pretty long haul to get to Steinhatchee Friday evening - graduation day where I teach - turn back around & go home, then head back the next day. Hats off to anybody from Tally who grinds out this one. I'll be interested to see how it pans out, especially given the relatively high entry fee. A real test of confidence in one's ability!

Gary,
I don't know if you've seen them but there's this neat invention called a "hotel". They have rooms you can rent with a bed and everything for when you can't make it home. Or another is called the back seat. If push comes to shove, you can sleep there. Plus it's not like you're pulling a boat.

The original ad said the captains meeting was only Mandatory on Wed. for the pro guys, I wonder if it is mandatory for the rest? Do you think the launch anywhere will be a problem with fairness of the tourney Warrior? Seems like I could get farther down the coast in my boat faster than in the truck, at least in the Keaton area where the ramps are a ways apart by road. With a 3 oclock weigh in, it sounds like to have any fishing time you would have to put in at Keaton or Steinhatchee if you planned on driving from another ramp.

I always feel everyone should leave from the same ramp or at least within a few miles to make it a level playing field,as far as fairness it don't matter where you leave from someone doing wrong will do it anywhere.

Talked to the guy putting it on yesterday, he said that you can either register at Fiddlers on Friday evening or he will be at the public ramp on Saturday morning, I am planning on fishing the redfish part so plan to be at the ramp to register on Saturday morning. Just kind of worries me about the turnout. Doesnt seem like it was advertised much, I figured they would have got Keaton to post it on the marina website(unless I missed it).

Like a total sucker, I responded to Reel Cowboy's sarcastic post by deciding to commit to this tourney. Got up at 3:30am to make the drive from Tally to Keaton Beach. The director happily took my $100 redfish entry and told me to be at the Keaton Beach Marina before 3pm for weigh-in. He specifically said to be at the KBM, NOT the public launch. I showed up at KBM at 2:45pm. There was no evidence of a weigh-in protocol. The bored attendants at the marina offered no advice when I asked about weigh-in. I stayed at the KBM for 10 minutes, looking everywhere for an official.

I then raced over to the public launch (not wanting to be disqualified for late entry, and desperate to find weigh-in), and located the tourney director. He offered no explanation for moving the weigh-in site unannounced. He then said a 12-9 total had already been weighed in.

I don't mind that my 2-red total of 12-0 finished out of the money. I have fished enough tourneys to know that a 14lb double is the redfish gold standard. Still, for my $100 entry, it would have been nice to have been informed of the actual weigh-in site, AND to have witnessed the winning weigh-in.

I have newfound respect for tourneys directed by NFGFC, FCKA, Rock the Dock, FSU Fishing Club and Otto!
