Where is a good place to put a small boat and motor in to just ride and enjoy the river?

At the fort and go upriver all the way.

The Fort , Shields marina, shell island fish camp, by the canoe shop bridge , and at the bridge at the fence . That's 5 landings one should fit your need's.

What they said!! But this week-end NO WHERE !! Of the spots listed I'd go to Shields or Shell Island
