Does anybody have any advice on getting started trolling for kings? I just bought a 17' boat and want to give it a try when it warms up a little. We know absolutely nothing about that type fishing, so any advice is appreciated. We just want to try something different.

Trolling over hard bottom or around wrecks and reefs in 30+ feet of water, and you'll be hard pressed to find anything they won't hit. Slow rolling big live baits such as hardtails and cigar minnows on stinger rigs will get you plenty of strikes. Spoons, dusters, and diving plugs all work well.

For a lot more fun try anchoring over productive bottom and chumming. When the fish are there cast surface plugs and yozuri's on trout tackle for a whole lot of fun.

Is the area out from st. marks good for kings or will we need to go further west. I have caught a lot of kings out of Mexico Beach but have not tried further east.

I have caught them all around the marker 24 area out of st marks, and have actually seen them in as close as the safe water bouy.
