Got back on the water today after a few days with no fishing. It seems that the shrimp drought is upon us and this always makes things a bit tougher for me. It forces me to catch bait, which I don't mind doing, but if I am taking multiple friends, I have to catch bait for everyone. I decided that I would just take one of my buddies today and fish the early morning high tide. Since we didn't have to wait for Jerry's to open at 7, we met up at 6 and headed straight for the Lighthouse. It was off to our bait spot next where we loaded up with mud minnows and small pinfish. We then ran East of the Lighthouse to spot number one. This spot produced sharks, catfish, a few small trout, and one trout right at 15 that I released. We moved on to the next spot and did a little better. My buddy caught a nice red that went 25.6 inches caught on a small pinfish and shortly after I caught one on a mud minnow that went 24. We put a few more puppy reds in the boat and one more right at 18 that was released. We had a couple really big sharks cruising around the shallow area that we were fishing. We moved out to another spot but the rain was chasing us so we had to move on after just a few casts. We drifted the flats for just a little while but the storms were brewing and it was tough to tell where they were heading so we ran for the hill. Off the water by about 12 30. Saw a sweet little Mitzi skiff about to launch at the ramp. Pretty sure this is what I would like to get for my first skiff, hopefully one day soon! Tight lines.
