Right now Cabela's has 15lb Si Ripcord braid on sale for $10.49 for a 400 yard spool. The Sufix 832 at 10lb and 20lb is priced at about 4X that. Has anyone tried both? Is the Sufix line really that much better? I've never tried braid and want to give it a try. That Cabela's line looks cheap, but I know cheap isn't always the way to go.

I would start with the basic sufix braid, then if you like the way it works get a higher price line.

I switched from mono to braid two years ago. I tried Spider Wire about 3 years prior to that and was very disappointed. I guess that is why it took me so long to make the switch. A friend recommended Power Pro. It has worked very well and I have been happy with it. Then came the Sufix 832. I tried it and was even more pleased with the performance than the Power Pro. The manufacturer's claims that it is rounder, absorbs much less water, thinner,quieter through the guides, and casts farther are true.
I would suggest going to the Power Pro first. If you like it, then upgrade if you want. I think if you try a cheap braid you will be unhappy and not make the switch. The advantages of braid over mono are, thinner, more line capacity to the spool, better abrasion resistance, no stretch(which gives you better hook sets and more sensitivity), and casts farther.
Disadvantages are, more noise through the guides, harder to tie knots that do not slip, no stretch(which you might need when working a top water lure), and it is more visible to the fish.

I have 6lb Suffix 832 on my jig rod and I love it. Works great for catching pin fish. Just kidding, it cast great and is very durable. Do not go cheap, go pro or suffix or you will be sorry.
