boat sale scam article

Post by smeseroll »

A few months ago, I came across an incredible deal online for a Boston Whaler 17' Montauk. I emailed back and forth with the "seller," and then informed him that I was going to be in Tampa and wanted to see the boat. The seller gave me some BS story about how he was out of the country and had turned the boat over to the shipping company, so it was not available for viewing. However, if I wanted to buy the boat, I can send my money to an online escrow company, and they would hold the money until I took possession and inspected the boat. At that point, I walked away because things sounded way too suspicious.

Now, 6 months later, I came across this article in Boat US magazine telling of the exact same scam. Enjoy reading about this NY bonehead.

Same happened to me. E-mailed a lady on C.L. about a sea-pro and she gave me a story that her husband died and left it. She had good pics and said it was with a shipping company in Tennessee.I passed.Gotta watch out for crooks!! :smt011
