Had old friend arrive around 11 on Friday night to go fishing with my Dad and I. for our new Saturday morning ritual of fishing at the Aucilla. We got a late start and left about 630 met Dad in Newport around 645. Launched around 715 and was fishing around 745. Passed several gators on the river on the way out, which is cool for my buddy from North Ga. High tide was at 654, winds were calm and it was a bit overcast. Cruised down the coast and found a random creek. Headed toward the mouth of the creek, schools of bait were everywhere. We caught a 24“ red at the mouth of one of the creeks. Tide was flowing out of the creek ended up cruising down the shore for a while. Darin hooked two big crab traps. In between traps he caught a 23” red. We had a manatee come in on us. It was throwing a wake for about 100 yards before reaching us. Shortly afterwards my dad caught a 20” red. We continued to fish and I caught a couple more reds. I caught a 23” and released the 20”. Lost another one in the trolling motor. Darin ended up catching another short. All fish were caught on gold spoons. We welcomed the wind on the ride home. We passed a gator about .5 mile offshore that Troy Landry would be excited to meet. We were back at the ramp at 10;30 and home by 11:30. Oh yeah it was kind of warm but it was a wet heat.
