Etec Owners

Post by sorifish »

I need HONEST feedback from Etec owners. I've read so much, its like a chevy/ford argument. I'm looking at buying a 90 Etec but unsure of the reliability of the motor. If you own or have owned an Etec any advice/recommendation would be appreciated.

YA CAN'T GO WRONG WITH A ETEC IF IT HAS NOT BEEN RUN TO DEATH. CHECK THE COMPRESSION AND ALL CYLINDERS SHOULD BE ABOUT 130 POUNDS, IF THERE IS OVER 5 POUNDS DIFFFERENCE BETWEEN CYLINDERS , GO L00K FOR ANOTHER OUTFIT.

Love mine and I'm on the second (traded in the first to stay under warranty due to my guide business).

Excellent gas mileage, very little oil use (I have to remind myself to check the tank since it seems to last forever) and great hole shot. Almost as quiet as a four-stroke and definitely lighter. Starts every time with a flick of the key. I'm running the 200 small block and it comes in at 419 pounds.

I've also tested a bunch of the 90s and it might be one of the best in the E-TEC line-up. Very strong and dependable engine. I'd highly recommend it.

Talk to Brett at Shields Marina in St. Marks--850-925-6158.

My '06 runs like a top. It sat up for about 6months without running. First time i turned the key it popped right off. I did clear all of the fuel lines and filters of gas before It sat up. At about 60hours I did have an alarm that showed the oil injector was missing some pulses, which BRP fixed under warranty. That was back in '08 I think. Oh and ditto Capt. Dave, setting it up to run XD100 is the way to go.

I've been running a 50hp on my 16' skiff for 3 1/2 years. It won't burn gas or use oil but cranks every time on the first try. I chose the synthetic oil option to extend the warranty to 7 yrs. I just opened my 2nd gallon of oil last month. Only work required was when one of the starter motor bolts came out - but was easily replaced, and I had the impeller replaced in the water pump this spring. I've always had good luck with OMC motors but this one is a gem!
Cheer up, it gets worse...I did, and it did!!
