St. Marks Offshore 8/20/2011

Decided to head offshore today for some liquid theropy knowing the justification of spending 150$ in fuel, bait and ice just really isnt worth it if your trying to break even. Wifey, dad, and I headed to the flats and made bait quickly and were heading south by 830 am. We decided to go deep at hopes of some big red grouper and cobia. Neither would coopereate!
Headed to 60 ft which is 32 miles from black rock btw
. Got to the spot and first drift wife gets a big hit but looses it on the way north. Next drift I get slammed by a toad of a red snapper which has to go back in the drink
! Probably the 2nd or 3rd biggest red snap I have ever caught. It went 26.5" and 12 lbs. I dont quite get the regs do yall
! Next drift my dad catches a monsta...lol..a 200lb 10 ft sea monsta...nurse shark to be exact...but it was a beast which was cool cause we havnt ever caught one that big. Fished a bunch of spots that usually produce for us but the 86F water temps offshore and the minimal tidal flow wasnt helping us. Finally got on a decent red grouper bite at 2pm but all of them were 18.5" to 19.75"!
Finally I broke the ice with a 22" and wifey manages a 21"! Caught a few short gags off that hole and decided to head in cause it was getting late! The fish were very lethargic today but as far as weather goes, couldnt have asked for a better day. A little hot but man was it calm and no lightening storms
! Suprisingly saw a bunch of boats offshore out and about. Good to see the assinign regs dont have everybody discouraged and some people are still getting out on the big pond! Tight line- Jhults11
