On friday my son and I drove out to a 60 acre private lake only to find the gate to the comm. ramp was locked. But my friend who lives on the lake has a dock that is in a good area to fish . So we just used it , the biggest fish was 2lb largemouth that hit a chrome and blue rattle trap. We also were using minnows about two to four ft deep witch we caught the rest of our fish on. The water was high and stained but the bite was slow but steady. First was a 1lb bass then a 11 inch yellow perch (brite colors), two crappie and a mud cat that had very short fins. We returned all of them to fight another day. Not much to report but a good time. Take care! 8)

Nice report SF.

Appreciate you sharing the experience. That's a pretty fair size lake, do most of the small lakes and empoundments around that area have stained water? Is this the result of run off, feeder creeks, leaves/tanic, etc?

SR, the stained water is the result of runoff, the dirt in area is red clay and when we have heavy rains most of the lakes that are spring fed will get stained to muddy. The one we where fishing is fed by a small river, its a good place to fish but not easy to get a boat in. It has a healthy population of yellow perch that is not common to most lakes around here, Although the chat. river has them above atlanta in good numbers.
