Confession

I did it. I can't believe I did it. After almost 50 years of launching boats, I did it. But in my defense it was a very confusing situation, and I've been having trouble concentrating. But I did it. I confess. And I hope to never do it again. And thank you Brett for being discrete at the ramp.

It happens...Hope it wasn't too painful for you or the boat.

Years ago I had an 18' Enterprise center console with a 115 Merc. The trailer needed some help, so I spent a good amount of $ and time redoing bunks, rollers, etc. First time out, I unhooked the boat and began to back down the ramp at Gandy Bridge in Tampa. As the trailer dipped down the ramp, I heard a thud and was suddenly looking at the underside of my bow in the rearview mirror.
Several guys at the ramp helped me pick up the rear of the boat, and one winched it back on the trailer far enough to get it off the ground. Went back to the marine supply house and learned all about Marine-tek after that one.

Don't feel too bad - if you fish or hunt long enough things are going to happen.

Over the years I have forgotten to unhook the winch, forgotten to take off the tie downs, forgotten to hold onto the bow line, and launched straight into an idling boat but the worst was when I forgot to put in the drain plug and ruined a small kicker engine. On the plus side I have never dropped the boat on the ramp and never launched my vehicle into the water but there is still time for that.

When we read something like this, if we have never done it, it is best to think of two simple words ... NOT YET.

What ever it was....I've done it too!

When you do it more than once, you really feel stupid!
