Anybody got a magic potion to spray on boat trailer springs to keep them from rusting? Rinsing them with freshwater doesn't seem to do the trick.

INOX spray. Shields and other local outlets carry it.

BACK THAT TRAILER COMPLETELY UNDERWATER IN A FRESH WATER POND,RIVER, LAKE ETC. AND RUN THE GAS OUT OF THE CARB. AND YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT RUSTY SPRINGS AGAIN. MY TRAILER HAS THE ORIGINAL SPRINGS, BOUGHT THIS TRAILER IN 1960. SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR I SPRAY W-D 40 OVER THE ENTIRE TRAILER WITH THE BOAT OFFLOADED.

There are a couple 'home remedies'

Guys use Pam spray but the springs are hard to effectively coat due to the flexing

The best solution is to wire brush and spray with a good quality lube a few times a year. When you launch the boat and after parking, take a few moments to do this. It is easy with the boat off the trailer. Or you can bring your boat and trailer by Capital City Trailers on North Monroe St. and see Will. I'm convinced it's becoming a material issue. My original springs lasted a good 13-14 years. Had to replace them about 3 years ago (purchased new springs from Coastal Trailer) and they look like they already need to be replaced. In other words I suspect that new manufacture materials are a mix of materials or what ever that cause them to deteriorate much quicker or have chemical reactions with other materials that the originals did not...or at least not as quick. I've seen it with respect to other parts as well. It's just my gut feel

I think you can usually opt to upgrade to torsion arms when you have the trailer in for service... just throwing that out there...

Torsion axles are the only way to go in saltwater. Almost all trailer springs are coming from China now. if you plan on keeping the boat for a while I would replace the axle with torsions.

Friend of mine had the same issue with new springs. The springs imported from China are not any good and will rust in 2 months. Try to buy American springs to get any longevity and not rust.
