Econfina 10/15

This past saturday i took my pops out to econfina to chase after some trout and reds. I had heard reports form other fisherman that fish were everywhere and that cut bait was the way to go.... However, my adventurous spirit told me to go artificial all day. After getting out before sunlight, I pulled up into the first open creek mouth I saw. After a few cast with my skitterwalk i caught a nice red and with a few more cast caught a nice trout. It seems that every cast a fish would short strike the plug. After a few drifts i decided that we should head on out a little deeper and try for some trout. I threw a jighead with a new penny gulp and my dad had threw a CT with a new penny gulp. Both of us had a lot of success but it seemed that the bigger fish were more prone to bite my jig. The most startling thing during the day was at dead tide we caught more fish than we did the rest of the day. It seemed as if the big fish turned on for about 20 minutes and after they nearly stopped completely. With the lull I decided to make the run out to rock island. Once there i decided to throw my skitterwalk for a while and see if i couldnt entice the bigger trout to bite. After many casts and a few huge strikes, I finally had a good hookup. After a couple of good runs i got the fish close enough to see the size, it was MASSIVE
. In a last ditch effort the fish made another run and came unhooked
. I reckon thats why we call it fishing. After a few more trout we headed on in. Great trip and me and dad had a blast. No pics but as soon as i figure out how ill post.
