I'm in the market for a good portable powerful spotlight to be used on my boat. I don't have a preference for a rechargeable battery as I have read they don't last long. I am interested in something waterproof. Anyone have recommendations?

I have had the cordless spotlights and find that when I need one the battery is dead. I carry a plug in Brinkman on the boat now.

The cordless don't run on the cord when pluged into the cig lighter outlet?

Most of them are crap and will not last a season in salt water. Tried to "save some money" buying the rechargeable and cheapies.

Then I got the Optronics Blue Eye Beam... Made in the USA. Built a lot tougher than the others I've had. Water Proof Switch.

Had one of those for almost 20 years before we broke the bulb... only thing that ever went bad was the clips we put on the wire.

I used a Q-Beam 3million candlepower the other night. Worked great. Would light up the markers out to 2 and 3 deep.

As mentioned above - I've had bad luck with the rechargeable ones, either being dead or going dead long before they are supposed to.

The best solution I've found is a regular Q-Beam spotlight and a 12 volt motorcycle battery. The motor cycle battery can be recharged on a regular 12 volt charger, and it is way less than half the size and weight of a regular trolling motor battery. The entire set up can be easily moved to the front or back of the boat depending on where you need it.

I bought tis one for the boat because it's small. I've been using it hunting and boating for about 6 months. The one I got holds a charge great. I will say I've owned a couple streamlight flashlights in the past that were crap. This one is much better and it's small.

I have had some very expensive cordless spotlights and they are always dead when you need them. I also went back to a corded light.

I'm thinking about getting this waterproof Stanley rechargeable LED. I think if you want a rechargeable spot, LED is the only way to go.

I have one at the house and so far after 4 years it been a good one. But I would go with a corded hand held for the boat. The brighter the better.
The Optronics Blue Eye Beam is a good one and Brinkman's are hard to beat in the corded models.
Like every one else I have used the rechargeable s and just when you need it. It out of juice.
That's my $.02 worth.

I saw some guys out duck hunting the other day and they ran their light for hours and hours. I asked them at the ramp if they were afraid of the dark. If I see them again, I will get the brand name. It was bright and it seemed to go on and on and on.

Personally, I use mostly plug in types now.

I use an exact setup as Steve said for my duck boat. I get a clamp to cig lighter connector and always have a spare as well. If I need the rig for the saltwater boat, I can just toss the whole thing in there. I have never had a rechargeable last.

If you choose the right one, there are rechargeables that also run on 12v, but you have to read the fine print to be sure. Never seen a cheap one that would though.

I just use them so often, that anything past one duck season is gravy as I think of them as nearly disposable.
