Thinking About Different Repair Place

I am happy with the work where I usually get my 30 HP merc serviced and my little Whaler worked on, but they are so busy and thus slow that I would like to find another place. For example, I was going to have them swap out a light switch, and they needed a few weeks to do that 5 minute job . Also, I and the boat are in Tallahassee, and where I go now for service is 40 miles or so south.

Whadayathink?

Get a repair manual for the motor and learn all you can about it :) If it is still under warranty, call all of the repair shops within a 40 mile radius and see if they are a CERTIFIED Mercury repair shop and make a list of those that are. When you need work done under warranty, start calling and getting estimated repair times from all of them :D Get the repair manual in any case "they are not out there on the water with you" and the more you know about your boat and motor, the better off you are :-D You will not find a shop that is worth a damn that is not backed up unless you just happen on a slow time in dead Winter :o

What Wevans said about good shops being backed up is true here as well. Flint River Marine in Albany has good mechanics and fair prices, but it takes a while this time of year to get your boat through.
I guess it's the price some of us pay for our lack of mechanical skill and knowledge.
