Couple days , ago son in law and grandson and I went to check some cameras..I was driving along a field road next to the woods when we turned a corner and saw a red tailed hawk sitting on something on the ground. When we got closer the hawk tried to fly with it. A large snake. It was too big for the hawk to fly with so he had to drop it. I stopped the truck to see it and it was a big moccasin. still moving. Hawk had done a great job of tearing its head up though. NO doubt the snake wasn't gonna get away. I had a tape in the truck so we stretched it out and measured it 47" long and about as big in girth as you will ever see a cottenmouth. I've seen one hawk before carrying a small snake and thought it unusual.

This incident gives me a whole new perspective on hawks.
