Great trip I was able to take the day before new yrs in Key West. The wife and I dropped the kids at my folks house and headed to key west for a little get-a-way...and just so happened, a friend of mine dates a girl from there whos family has a 33 invincible and are very gracious and took us out on a fishing trip...

So we head out early am...and normally in the keys, the run for grouper only needs to be 5-7 miles....however, these guys are 4th generation fisherman in key west and they have some spots that no one goes to...and promised a lot of fish...so we prob ran 40-50

Tackle? how about just a spool of 80-100lb mono...a hook, some weight, pinfish and 2 hands, "cuban yoyo" is what they called it. Was a little nervous we'd hook a monster, and i'd look like a fool...but we just caught normal sized red grouper for the most part so it wasnt so bad...just man up and yank their butt at of the rocks and just get em up...not as exciting as old man and the sea....but had we hooked a jew fish or big shark im sure it would have been interesting...

in a couple hours we were near our 5 man limit of 20 grouper...took us almost as long to get the last 2-3 than it did the first 17...

headed back by 2, enough time to let the old men clean the fish while we cleaned the boat...add some flour, grease, side dishes and beer, and a great fish fry followed...what a great day in key west! And i learned a new method that ill have to try out around our waters here...
