Now I've doubled up on a split swivel before and caught fish, but I can see this being utilized well in some of the deeper flats - my main concern would be the visibility of the steel wire extended out with the light hitting it.

Stranger things work there. It would probably work best when the bait fish are real active.

No I have not tried one yet. But i witnessed a guy on lake Talquin tearing up the bass on a homemade model. The rig is called a Alabama rig and it made it's debut on the Bassmasters this season with Paul Elias taking the event by a landslide. Maybe the next best thing in Bass fishing.

I read today where some of the B.A.S.S. tournaments will no longer allow this type of bait by restricting anglers to a "single lure". Not that this has anything to do with flats fishing other than it might reflect catch rates of freshwater fish !

Right now, Alabama Rigs are $27 at Kevins, not counting the six jig heads and swim tails you have to put on them. That's a litttle much to risk hangin on the bottom or losing to some large saltwater predator.

My dad and I were talking about these last night.... striped bass fishermen have been using Umbrella rigs for years.
Ive seen them trolled up on Lake Lanier North of Atlanta.

I'm sure we could catch trout on them.

I'd love to drop that rig on a Black Sea Bass reef

Coming from someone who has a boxing ring on the bow of his skiff, why does this not surprise me?

Forget black sea bass, Bman... hook some longer eel jigs on the end and have that bad boy ready to drop during one of those 5 cobia by the boat moments and you would have a GUARANTEED MEMORY!

Mind actually shudders a bit at the thought of the bedlam that would ensue. Best bet would be to thread the front head with rope tied to the boat, pull anchor and let nature take it's course.

As I think more and more about the above scenario, I think I'm going to make it happen in 2012! Going to wait to use it for amberjacks until 2013, and goliaths in 2014.
