Post by flatsbroke »

Got a friend @ work that just ordered a really nice unit for his 21 ft Sea Pro and is willing to part w/ the Garmin GPS MAP162 that came w/ the rig, asking $150 and I've only got a hand-held at this time(cheap one) and thinking of getting this one.Anyone one familiar w/ this particuliar gps unit? $150 sound about right?Unit is a gps only!

Dude, get a color gps. You will be sorry if you don't.
To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.

Take it from someone who has both..(color & mono) ..take Harmway's advice....you might find a color unit for that amount if you look around.

i have had my 162 for over 7 years ,never had any trouble with it , back then i paid over $600.00 for it .
it will work for you if it come with the maps in it for the area you are in ,it is user frindley
i dont know if you can update them anymore , i have not updated mine in a few years
yes it is B&W (color is nice) but for a starter it is good
One thing about the speed of light it gets here too early in the morning

I agree... the 162 is a good unit and reliable...that's why I kept mine on the boat as a back up to the color unit...but the 162 won't take a chip or load the information a newer unit will and it's obsolete so I'd recommend going with a newer color unit...btw: there's a brand new 162 with all the accessories on ebay going for $150.. bought in 2005 and never used if you decide to go with a 162
