Great day at Keaton Beach 3/1/04

Left Keaton Beach Marina about 7:45. Out the canal and headed south. Short run and started fishing. Few other boats around and plenty of pelicans on the water. Fished for about 1 hr. in 3' and less water no luck. Headed north up to the adams beach area and moved around quite a bit for the next 2 hrs. mainly in <3' water. Finally we started picking up a few 14-16 inchers. 2-3 fish per drift. Fooled around there for a few hours until we had about 11 keepers. All of the keepers were 15-16 inches. Around 3 p.m. we ran back south to where we started that morning. Then we found the big boys. We spent the next hour and a half catching 19 trout from 20" - 25.5 " long. Caught all the big trout on Catch 2000's (red and white, and black/gold/orange) Caught the earlier keepers on everything from a candy corn jig under an equilizer cork to a gold Cotton Cordell jerk bait. Spent a lot of time that morning moving and changing baits. Highest water temp today was 59.2 degrees in 3 ' water. The water north of Keaton beach is stained while the water to the south is somewhat clearer. However we noticed that afternoon that the big trout we caught were in the slightly stained water adjacent to the clear water. Another great day at Keaton Beach can't wait until next time. Interestingly, those big trout were in the exact same place they were in when I last fished Keaton Beach the last week of January.
