Plastic worms for redfish?

Just cleaned a coupla nice slot reds, caught in Stoney Bayou. Both had multiple long, skinny, eel-looking forage in their bellies, from 5-9 inches long. I'm tempted to go back out & pitch thin plastic worms next time, as if I'm bass fishing. Anybody try this before for reds?

Hey Gary, here is one I pulled out of the stomach of an alligator harbor last year. That is a big fillet knife. Ps I saw some footprints in the mouth of stony b this sat. Figured it was you. Saw your car on the way out.

there was a thread or two a year or so back about the same thing. a few people went out and pitched a few, landing a few reds.
just have to figure out how to work them that day

I read something a couple of years ago from a Louisiana angler saying that he learned to catch reds by using bass tactics. He swears by it. He says whatever will catch bass will catch reds.

Thanks, guys. SG, those were probably my mudtracks at Stoney. Reds in that area had eels/worms just like in your pic, but not as long! I'm on spring break now so will try to find some light-colored worms next few days and give it a try. BTW, lotta reds hitting in St. Marks Refuge creeks right now. I don't think they care what you throw!

I caught reds and trout this winter on the 4-inch Al Gag's Whip-it Eels. They loved 'em.
Shields Marina in St. Marks and Kevin's in Tally both carry the lures, but I'm not sure if they stock the 4-inchers.

And I just got back from Louisiana, where we caught tons of reds and trout on spinnerbaits. Yes, bass tackle and lures will work.

You can also catch flounder using that technique. I sat next to a guy on a Galveston jetty who caught his limit of flatties using a purple worm (Texas rigged of course).

Landlocked reds will hit a buzzbait like it owes them money. They get confused and swim pretty far up the Wakulla every now and again too, it's a wee bit of a surprise when one inhales a Zoom Lizard you're fishing for bass. Lots of people slay reds using a "Thunder Spin" which is just a spinnerbait with a jerkbait on it instead of a skirt. Flounder love em too.
I bet if you ran a sturdy buzzbait over the oyster bars in the creek mouths now, you'd get your arm broke.
