I have used commercially sold packaged king mackeral rigs consisting of a wire leader with two treble hooks with good success. Some come with a mylar skirt that slips over a baitfish's mouth and the trailing stinger hook can be inserted in his tail or left dangling. I believe the brand I've used is by Sea Striker. I read on this site that using a treble hook w/ live bait is illegal. So, is this rig illegal if used with a live bait but legal if used with a dead cigar minnow?

Trebels are illegal on a species-by-species basis with "natural bait" (note- I wonder if "natural" includes fishbites, meaning sticking one on your top-water plug would be illegal????)

But back to the issue at hand, you see Kings are okay to catch with this method (there is no "T" listed next to kings), while specks are illegal to catch using natural bait and a trebble as evidenced by the "T"
