Lanark 4/6/12 "Windy Specs and Spots"

Dad and I decided to take the boat down to Lanark and make the call to head to some state water grouper #s or stay close and chase reds and trout. Upon launching @ 11:00 AM and seeing white caps as far as the eye would allow, the flag at lanark mart nearly being ripped off the pole, and mountains in the distance, we opted to stay close and look for some trout and reds...unfortunately the gags got a pardon today. We started drifting some areas east of the marina in 3.5 to 5 fow with limited success of one 3lb bluefish. Moved around to three or four holes that JT no longer owns and hit pay dirt once we found some cleaner water. Hit a go to flat I have done well on for years and they were stacked. They hit everything we threw including the classic rookie rig of a new penny gulp under a cajun thunder, a few on topwater, and several on the redfin. Two drifts on that hole and pops and I had a nice limit with one right at the 20" top of the slot mark. At about 130 we went in search of reds and upon arrival we notice our shallow water friends were being a bit picky today but once we found the bait they wanted it was on. Ended up with 6 keepers to 21" while keeping our limit of 4 and 15 shorts. Upon araival back at the fish camp in st marks I met Bullet. They had a pretty good day and had a stud trout right at 25"...nice meeting you again bullet. All in all a heckuva inshore day that started out as a busted offshore trip. Cost less to stay inside anyways, burned 7 gallons and at 4.11 a gallon at crums for ethanol free...didn't hurt my feelings. Spring fishing is on big time, get out their and get after it
Final tally:
10 trout to 20"
6 Reds to 21"
3 lb Bluefish
Quality time with pops

Our best two

Not a bad way to spend 4.5 hours

Looks like you and your dad turned a bad day to the good. The wife and I were in Cedar Key Fri and today ,as you know conditions were not the best. We had 4 to 5 ft inside fri but still managed to pick a few trout, the strange thing was that, thought we only had 6 , the smallest was 18 inchs and we caught no throw backs. Today several of the guides that I know there turned downed their charters because of the wind.
