What does it mean ?

I was listening to Oyster Radio last evening (+6 hours here) and in a folksy song the chorus contained the phrase , "one toe over the line", in the context of "sitting in a bus station with one toe over the line".
This is an expression I have never heard and wonder what it means.

I've never heard that song or the Oyster Radio but "one toe over the line" would mean to me getting the "jump" on something by being just a little over the line. Cheating just a fraction.

One toke over the line sounds better than one puff too many. :smt036

After watching that video, I have to ask, are people still doing acid?

Oooops, I obviously misheard it, I understand the reference now, thanks for the responses. :smt020

I listen to Internet radio a lot in the evenings, Oyster Radio is good and for Bluegrass and real C&W WDVX cannot be beaten.
We visited the original WDVX studios in Clinton, Tennessee some years ago, it was in a little camper. :o

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) or in other circles (also called Mauwie Wauwie) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody, (sometimes spelled Pardy, as in Pardy down!) This page contains all the misheard lyrics for One Toke Over The Line.

Brewer and Shipley's, "One Toke Over The Line"
Misheard Lyrics:
One toe over the line, sweet Jesus,
one toe over the line
Original Lyrics:
One toke over the line, sweet Jesus, :o

Not that would know anything bout that klind of stuff. After all I graduated in 1969 when they didn't do nasty stuff like that.

I spent the "Summer of Love" in SF (Haight-Ashbury) in '67 and looked real hard for that line. Never found it, but my cake did melt in the rain.

Pop a top, again.
I just got time for one more round.
Set em' up my friend.
Then I'll be gone;
And you can let some other fool sit down.

McArthur Park...."someone left the cake out in the rain....."

Little doubt those were the GOOD OLD DAYS which my generation uses for comparison! :-D

And yes, I did inhale!

And no, I was never tempted by acid. That stuff will kill you and your brain cells....whichever goes first!

The only "green" then was icing! :smt005
