Where to surf fish on St. George Island?

Post by DEADLYMNM7 »

I am planning to fish this month and next month on the beaches on St. George Island.
I don't want to go on anyone's private property, so where can I go surf fish on St. George Island?
Hoping to catch Pompano and Spanish Mackerel; what type of bait, lures and fishing hooks should I use?
Thanks for the help!

I'm not sure about where to go as I have only fished st G from a boat. I'm sure someone will chime in on that. But to get started see bmans how to on pompano in the surf fishing section. Good luck

Salty Gator beat me to the how to post... any of the public beaches area great. Don't forget about the state park on the east end.

You wont catch many spanish with the pompano rig... try casting a gotcha or a clarks spoon with a weight in front of it.
Ive even done well on spanish with topwater

Thank you for the replys! Both my poles are about 8 foot long. Do you think that is long enough for casting out?

I always fished in the State Park. My favorite spots were at turn in #5 (closest to the boat ramp) and the access closest to the actual campground. I agree with throwing a topwater in the morning when it is calm and then a silver spoon. If you are just looking for something to bite, there should be plenty of whiting in the surf. If you have a bigger rod, put a whiting out on a big circle hook and hang on. I landed a bull shark that was nearly 8 feet long and lost a monster after a 90 minute fight.
