We got there around 9 and fished til 1. We caught 4 fish total. 3 happened to be the "bait steelers". dont know what they were? and one was what I thought could be a snapper but it wasnt red? Any clue? Should of taken a pic.

Got a few questions...we fished the reef some and also in front of turkey point and ended to the northwest of Dog Island about a 1/4-1/2 mile from the island. We had a spanish bite i think? It cut my line (didnt have a leader on)? What else can we do to be successful? We were using mixed color gulp, gold spoon, and a spook. we ranged depths and played in spotty bottoms and went to where other boats were at. Anyone having success?

Last question....the boat was acting up as we were going in. We would cruise fine around 20 mph and when we raise the throttle at full throttle it would accelerate up to speed fine for about 30 seconds and then go back down to slow speed. Its like the fuel wasnt getting to the carb enough or something? Or a prop bearing issue? Thanks for yalls help guys!

Dude, you were fishing the morning after a "Super Moon all nighter" --not the most favorable of fishing conditions. Keep up with the conditions, tides, and lunar phases you catch fish under and the conditions you don't. After a while things start to make a little more sense. I found the fishing to be mediocre this weekend as well although the topwater trout bite at dawn was pretty damned good.

Yep, not the best of times ta fish this weekend. Sonds like the vent tube may be stopped up on the fuel tank, or the line is collapsing on the motor problem

Setty7, when it comes to the full moon phase I definitely prefer fishing the front side a day or two before it's completely full versus once full / the few days following. Friday the bite was solid all morning long, though it did quiet down in the late afternoon. Also recommend checking solunar tables. I find they can be off by about an hour but still DO a fair job in predicting when the bite will get hottest (barring any negative conditions such as a cold front hitting, etc). Solunar called for hottest bite to be between noon and 2 this past Friday and from about noon to 1:00pm our offshore bite really was red hot.

And know it shows Sat and Sun as best days, but again personal experience during spring and summer is that bite just proves a bit better a day or two pre-full moon as fish haven't yet filled up the bellies by the full moon light. Just my .02.

Go to you tube and learn how to tie a leader. Uni to uni is what I use, easy once you have tied it a few times. You will want to tie on a leader. 20-30 lb fluorocarbon is the norm. You will want a leader as long as the fish you intent to catch. The bait stealers are likely pinfish, pigfish, porgys, or possibly small black sea bass. Good luck

thanks man! what do spanish like as bait?

Spanish love flash... Classic is a clarks spoon in a small size but they will hit any minnow bait with flash.

Next trip try some live shrimp under a cork on a #1 hook.
Just drag it behind the boat while your fishing the other way.
If you cont catch some trout and Spanish then you may be fishing the wrong spots.

Do you have an inline fuel filter? Sounds like you have some issues with your fuel or as my good buddy said, check the vent.

Setty I fished out there almost the same time. We caught 4 big Kings and could have caught as many as we wanted. You may have had a King get you.
We started with 50 Lb leader and they went through that like is wasn't there. Then went to 80 Lb and caught them with no trouble.

no fuel seperator at the moment. didnt think you needed one if you use ethonol free?

We ran due south about 6 miles, fished more of the depth than numbers. Used the bottom machine to find the fish then stopped.
