Motor Troubleshooting-----

Hey Fellas-
Need some advice n where to start my troubleshooting---

I have a 2004 150 four stroke Yamaha - when I turn the key to start it up - it rolls over several time before firing up. Through out the day; the rolling over before starting increases when we go to move spots. Saturday it got to the point it seems as though it rolled so long and not starting, that it killed the battery. We waited 10 minutes, tried again and got it to start. (the battery acting dead threw me off)

My friend has twin 250 yamaha 2 strokes, his fire up soon as he turns the key, like a truck. Are four strokes different? or should the fire right up to?

I know it near impossible to diagnose motor issues on a forum but was looking for any thoughts you all may have -

Thanks!

I had a buddy that had a Yahama that had that happen. He finally carried it to the dealer and there was a lever under the cowl that was in the wrong position. After they showed him that, he never had another problem.

If I remember right, it had something to do with a cold start lever.....

Have you pumped the bulb after running, to make sure that it has fuel to the carbs? Have you checked the fuel filter, the fuel pump and looked for any leaks around the carbs? It appears to be a fuel problem from your discription. A four stroke should fire up immidiatly after it has warmed up "sometimes a little slow to start when cold"

Found this on Iboats
Thanks for the responses. Called Yamaha today and they said there is "fix" for the F150 which is called a "Vapor Recovery Kit". Take it to a authorized Yamaha repair shop and they will install it for free. So mark n dark, you can get rid of that gas tank now, and we can finally start turning off our motors when we are offshore.
