Wow a report from the Celestial Crab how novel! Some of you might know the fuel issues with the crab lately and some may also realize that the Celestial one is in nurse anesthesia Grad school and VERY busy but regardless it has been WAY too long since my bride and I have had a day to fish together, so when Celeste sent me a nasty sea report for the weekend (which was after her semester’s finals week) I looked at Friday’s report which looked good and asked her what was stopping us from going then, other than being wore the slap out from the stress of finals or kids being home alone after school (kids being old enough now to look after themselves) we hit the road at o dark thirty Friday with Java in hand. I had a buddy Tommy wanting to join us who had worked very hard on the motors with me trying to get the fuel issues solved, so after meeting Carson at Lanark Village mart and launching the CC we caught pins while we waited on him to drive down from Valdosta after getting off from his Fire department job at 7AM so it wasn’t until nearly 11:30 before we rounded the east end of Dog Island and pointed the WELL running Celestial Crab south!
I think everyone wanted to say it but we waited until the very end of the day to comment on how well the boat ran and were well within sight of dog.
Seas were 1-2 foot with and occasional real wave thrown in to make it interesting the wind blew all day but not an issue other than making it pleasant temperature wise. First trolling spot so shallow stretch 25 had to be used put a 25 inch Gag in the box to start the day for Celeste and got the stink out of the boat first 5 minutes of lines out, but the day didn’t continue as such we worked our way out to the 9 NM area and then back bottom bumping with live and frozen baits and trolling here and there with only the nice Gag to show for our efforts and a box of HUGE black sea bass.
Interesting trolling event we had one about spool Tommy and had to chase it down only to pop the line as we are about to recover enough to see what it was by the looks of the leader I’m thinking HUGE shark or big goliath but it ran to fast for that I thought.
All and all it didn’t matter what was in the box as it was a beautiful and Wonderful day on mother’s day weekend with my bride and our friend Tommy with a boat that ran great and following seas on the way in!
