I have a transom mounted transducer, but it is constantly catch grass. Thinking about thru hull version, but a little scared of cutting the hull. I know you can get an in hull one, but no temp reading with that one. Any advice?
My boat is a Gheenoe LT 25.

I have a transducer stuck to the inside of my hull with silicone on my Gheenoe 13 and one in my biggest kayak. Neither one are completely accurate. You dont actually cut your hill but attach them to the inside of the hull with an AIR TIGHT seal I have a friend with one in his kayak. He always let's a little water in the hull to ensure no air. I've never liked that idea. Good luck!

Installed mine in the back bilge area of my Panga Marine marquesas... like Flint River Pirate says, just have to stick/epoxy down with airtight seal so that the solid/air-free bond allows the ping signal to be shot through the joined layers and return ping then read. Works like a charm for me. Did play with placement first, before gluing down, by moving it around and temporarily checking it by sticking it in place with vaseline until I felt comfortable I had found the optimum location for a clean signal read.

Garmin offers 3 different transducers. Transom, in hull and thru hull. My understanding is in hull is stuck to the inside and shoots thru. The thru hull is a hole cut.
The problem w in hull is no temp readings.
Are there any just water temp devices out there?

Garmin makes a temp only sensor. Look up semperfifishing on the electronics section on thehulltruth.com and he will get you one. He will give you accurate advice on transducers as well.

I feel your pain, Dock, but really, the inside bottom hull temperature of a Gheenoe will equilibrate to the the water temperature pretty fast (say, 10 to 15 minutes). You would only miss fast-changing temperatures with a glued-to-hull transducer with temperature sensor.

I just got a new unit and we sent the transducer back to Humminbird and they are sending one that is split-one to the SHOOT Through and one for temp on the transom. I love the shoot through, it works at full speed the majority of the time (will sometimes get air back bubbles or something, but it clears in just a minute- unless there is actually a 87 foot hole right out of the mouth of the Carrabelle River ) The Lowrance that came on the boat when I bought it already had a shoot through and a Temp sensor.
