David and I had been sweating the weather reports up until the night before, but decided to take the chance and go. It was a good decision. Except for clouds and a few light rain drops, the weather was really nice, but hot. Seas 1-2 out of the SW until the sea breeze.

The plan after leaving Carrabelle was to hit the 20 mile snapper spot, catch our limit quickly, and then move elsewhere for grouper. Not so fast, said the fish gods. First drop brought a legal red snapper about 3 pounds, which I threw back assuming lots more much bigger ones were coming. Unfortunately, it was not to be. Caught one nice RS about ten pounds, a lane snapper, and one red grouper about 6 lbs, and a bunch of sea bass. No more big snapper. Oh, and can't forget our buddies the sharks, which were happy to hit anything you could throw in the water. I cried many tears also when I threw back a horse of a gag grouper, which had me railed several times before I landed him. Caught another gag and he/she went back, too. Ain't these gag regulations wonderful?

We left the spot after it slowed to nothing and the wind totally died, and moved back in to state waters, which were shark infested but nothing else would compete. Trolled a bit in state waters, and boated one nice king on a stretch 30, which the king destroyed on a skyrocket hit. Still no storms, but getting late, so we headed in as a moderate sea breeze came up. On the ride back to Tally, heard that lots of storms had hit inland, but at sea it was no problem.

This was only the second day since snapper opened that I judged was weather "fishable", and I have gone both times.

Exactly. And, today it was storming like crazy at the coast while inland it was clear. So, we were extremely fortunate to go yesterday.

Thanks for the report Eddie, I hope the weather breaks for us next week. At least one good day.

That report sounds very familiar.... EJ made the same mistake I did opening weekend - that is throwback a keeper RS to begin the day. That, apparently, is the kiss of death for we caught only 2 keepers after that all the time knowing that we were going to load the boat..... and why wouldn't we? I mean, everytime I'm out grouper fishing, we would limit out on throwback RS!!! Do you reckon those fish can read a calendar?

Amen on the sharks on Thursday. Hard to get a bait down without one latching on. We actually had them circling the boat like AJ waiting for a free meal. Glad to see we weren't the only ones struggling to fill the cooler. Out of 3 days of RS fishing we've actually caught limit once and it was a struggle...
