Any tips and info on Trout fishing on the flats/river would be greatly appreciated. Especially the importance of tides.

General rule is an hour before the tide changes, they bite the best...But, if your not get'n bit'n the rest of the time, odds are your in the wrong place.....Generally speaking
Then variables such as weather, boat traffic, moon and noisy partners come into play as well
Then you have to have what they want, go to the tackle store and say I want one of each

I agree with what Chalk said except "buy one of each". Don't ever buy one of anything. If you're out there fishin and tearin um up on a particular bait, and lose it, it's a long way to the store. Buy at least two of everything. And buy chartreuse grubs by the hundreds.
