Valdosta Bass Pro Shop and Academy Store?

A couple of weeks ago I was in Valdosta and notice out near Sams and Walmart a new Academy Store was being built. That will be great for the area!

On Thursday coming home from Daytona on I-75 I noticed another large new building with the large logs and colors like a BPS going up right there with Sams and Walmart. I just checked the BPS site and there is no mention of it so I emailed a lady from their marketing dept to see if she will say if it is or not.
Has anyone else seen this building and know what is going in it?

I like most of you try to shop local but there isn't much of a choice or selection around Moultrie and Valdosta for fishing and boating stuff.

We are getting an Academy here in Tallahassee out Mahan near where the old Sportsman's Warehouse was.
I was at the Bass Pro in Macon and left thinking they don't have anything I can't get at home.

Gander and an Academy 30 minutes from the house. Sweet!!! I hope Gander Mtn's experience in FL has taught them to stock the stuff we need for fishing, boating, and hunting in this area and not have a huge section of rainbow trout flies and salmon eggs.
That will probably be better than a BPS. It seems like they get in any lure that is decent and send it off to China and have a cheap copy made, put their name on it, then quit carrying the original.
Up until now about the only options were Larry's Bait and Tackle in Moultrie and S GA Outdoors in Cairo which is a great store but I don't have any other reason to go to Cairo. Moultrie does have a good gun store but they don't carry much in the way of hunting supplies. Tallahassee is great when I'm going through that area but to just make a shopping trip you are talking 160 miles and a lot of gas.

I like the gander mtn stores more than BPS anyhow. Glad to see it coming to S. GA. I'll still shop at S. GA Outdoors and Kevins though.

I have shopped regularly at the Gander in Ocala, and their selection is great for salt water supplies and firearms. I just hope they do not do stupid stuff like WalMart does. The Wal-Marts in Fl carry salt water stuff, but the ones here in Ga only carry fresh water supplies. I have tried to get their dept's here to carry salt water stuff, and their reply is always the same, "Bentonville controls what we carry." What a bunch of idiots...So, I go to Tally to get fishing supplies....

We will see....

Is this talk or have they started building? Academy stores are great retailers of all types of outdoor gear and BBQ stuff.. I hope they do put one in Tally.

Gander is coming on pretty fast. They will be open before Christmas. I hear they are PO'd at the property owners for not disclosing the Academy negotiations.

Neither can replace Heafus!

I'll still do most of my shopping locally in our Mom/Pop stores. These big stores will never sell as cheap and will not have the good up-to-date fishing advice. They will have more stuff which may be helpful.

I agree about the BPS garbage being mostly made in china... I hope that the Gander store will do well, but have not been particularly impressed with them in other locations. The Academy, on the other hand, is GREAT!
