Rock Guard (available at Porter's Marine)
After I bumped a rock at the Ecky, I decided to look into a skeg guard. After some research, I was told that Waivel Porter could customize one for my Yamaha. After talking with him, I decided that I was going to go with him. Mr. Porter has always been pleasant to deal with and I believe in spending my money locally (at least whenever possible). I just wanted to post a few pics of the rock guard (skeg guard) that Mr. Porter installed. If anyone else is interested, just call Mr. Porter and he will set you up. JW

So those that actually have these...will it only protect your lower unit at idle or will it help while you are up on plane? I will get one before I start fishing that area but wonder what experiences people have had after they had one installed.

The skeg guard was not damaged.
Had it not been on the motor I am certain it would have sheared the skeg off.
When in rocky areas it is best to go slow.

It was $180 out the door. I am hoping it will save me a bunch more than that though.

Re: Rock Guard (available at Porter's Marine)
Rock guards even work out of the water. Saved my skeg just the other day while backing into the driveway. I forgot to raise motor first. Pretty good gouge in the concrete , but the skeg and rock guard are unscathed.
To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.
