Hello everyone! I've fished St. Marks a few times but just recently bought a new boat. I'm wanting to learn new areas to fish & would like to learn from Lanark all the way around to Alligator Point, can u guys give me some tips on where to fish & ANY rock piles and/or oyster beds I need to look out for so I don't hit them. Thanks in advance!

This probably fits better in the Boating section rather than Inshore reports, but Lanark is fairly safe as far as hazards are concerned. No rocks to speak of, although there are a few patches of oysters near the FSU marine lab, in the back end of Alligator Harbor and around the mouth of the Carrabelle River. There are shallow spots, however, that you need to watch during low tides. Turkey Point Shoal and Lanark Reef are the main areas. Apalachicola Bay Keeper has placed buoys warning of shallow grass beds to be careful around as well. Inside Lanark Reef can drop as low as a foot on dead lows and go absolutely dry in the winter during negative lows. And follow the channel going into the Lanark Boat Club ramp or you'll run into some nasty rip rap.

Use a good chart or GPS cartography to learn your way around and go slow until you do. Water is still stained badly by the recent TS, but when it's clear it rivals the Keys.

Individual research and personal experience are the best teacher. Thorough reading of past reports and other sources don't hurt, either.
