I believe in the control of the skeeters. I don't ever remember them being so bad here in Tally. I came close to getting a Black Flag propane fogger. We have a real skeeter problem on our side of town. Check this video out...

If the aerial spraying don't work, I'm going to get one of these and go to work on our yard.
Anyone ever tried one of these?

I have a fogger. Not this brand, but very similar. I used it this weekend. They work, but my resident skeeter expert says that the big problem is that there is only one type of insecticide out for them in non-commercial applications and they skeeters will build resistance.

I was talking to a friend yesterday who also has a lake house in the woods and he uses a product call bifen, which is a form of talstar. He was very pleased with the results. Sprays the trees and places skeeters hides and gets up to 30 day protection. I am going to try some of that next week.

I've found that smoke from a large bonfire using this type of fuel works fine!

I've read a bunch of reviews on the Black Flag fogger and most where not good reviews. This is a goodun, but ya gotta order it

I have 3 things to say about that and the Black Flag unit..................P....F....T....!

Had a coworker that used one of the propane traps that came out about 8 years ago. He swore by it. Says life in the country was livable again.

HAD ONE OF THOSE BLACK FLAG FOGGERS AND THE BLAME THING BLEW UP A FEW MINUTES AFTER I LIT IT. LUCK WAS WITH ME , I HAD JUST SET IT DOWN ON A STUMP AND TURNED AWAY TO GET MY PEPSI AND SHE LET GO, SET THE WHOLE BACK YARD ON FIRE. HAD SEVERAL HOSES I USED TO PUT OUT THE FIRE.

I checked, mine is a burgess.

I rode Cadillac trail this afternoon which runs from the end of Pedrick rd, behind Piney Z, all the way to Tom Brown Park. I glanced at the map this morning to see if they were spraying over my house and were not, but looked like they were spraying up to Apalachee Parkway. I heard a big prop plane fly over while I was riding and my first thought was "I wonder if that is the spray plane". Then a light mist began to fall....
Five minutes later I was soaked from rain.

Rocket - Is there a map that shows where they have or are going to spray in Leon County? I looked on their website but couldn't find one.

We have one at the house. I run it from about March through November. One tank of propane lasts about 3 weeks. It's not unusual to find 100 or so dead mosquitos in the trap when I change tanks. Funny thing is, I don't feel like there's a noticeable difference in the number of mosquitos in my yard. I don't know if I'm drawing more mosquitos to my property with the magnet and even though I'm killing 100, the overall number doesn't really decrease. But, the fact that it kills so many leads me to keep using it. It can't hurt.

It is, however, not inexpensive to operate. I have the Independence model which is the cordless model. It was about $600 I think. Then, add in the cost of a tank of propane ($17) and a scent cartridge (about $8 each) for a total of about $25 every 3 weeks.

We worked for a company that bought a mosquito problem in their parking garages. They must have had thirty of them, six on each floor, but it made little difference on the actual problem. Now, they were located in a swampy area. But i was not impressed with the number of mosquitos caught in the trap. And they are not cheap to operate. After the mosquito season, they asked every one about taking one home IF(?) they wanted one, they remained in the storage room!!!

The unit operates by producing CO 2 and some heat. CO 2 is one of the major green-house gasses that are contributing to global warming...
