Shell Point 7.21.12

I took my niece fishing last year. It was the first time we had fished together and it was part of her graduation present. Well, I have heard for the past year how much she enjoyed our trip and how she wanted a repeat. This was her last weekend home before pursuing her masters degree in South Florida, so I was hoping for favorable conditions because we were going to go out regardless.
My usual spots on the east flats have not been producing well lately, so I decided to try Oyster Bay and Shell Point. The weather was amazing. The water was calm as was the wind. The water temp started at 79 and went up to to about 84 towards 1:00. The clarity was much better than the east flats 2 weeks ago. Very little staining and about 4-5 feet.
The day started with a Bottle Nose Dolphin feeding show. 5 of them were herding mullet and crashing through with a shower of mullet erupting all around. We moved around a little and picked through a few lady fish when my niece finally knocked the skunk off the boat with this short trout.
We drifted through and changed locations a few times picking up over 12 trout total which included 4 keepers and a nice flattie by me.
We saw a 8-10 foot Hammer head, sea turtles, and Osprey diving for fish. It was a great day and I expect to hear about going for another trip over the next year. I am so happy that our day turned out so well.
