Never been hunting before. I am an experienced shooter (military). What are some tips for venturing out into the hunting world? What is a good economical weapon to have? Thank you!

Deer, turkey and hogs. Live in Tallahassee. Would a hunting club be a good choice?

A hunting club is a great idea. We use Jones for processing. They make great sausage. As for a weapon, you know there is no perfect weapon for every application. But a good 12 gauge can get all done. But a good rifle and a good shotgun would be best. A lot of folks hunt w a .270 but some like it a little bigger. Hope this helps.

Gaining access to hunting land isn't as easy as it used to be and most clubs are pricey. WMA's are free but can be crowded. Success and good times can be had on both though. Do you know anyone that hunts that you can tag along with at first? I personally would go with a rifle for longer shots and and anything from 243 to 30-06 will kill a deer. Shotguns are good up to 50 yds or so but good in tight thick cover. There are a few processors around the area. Johnstons in Monticello, Lime Stone in Wacissa and we have a place off of 90 E just past Baum Rd set up for processing and licensed. Haven't heard about Jones.

good luck
