Ok here we go for part 2.. Got up at 5:30 to get ready for the day. I made the sandwiches while FishingCPA loaded the stuff in the boat. He comes in saying that the guys next to us are getting raedy to go out. So I go outside to talk fishing and one of them says that the weather turned overnight. He said that they were calling for 80percent chance of rain and 15-20 knot winds. URG...really???!! O well good thing we weren't planning on going offshore since it was a bust the day before. We got to the camp store to get ice and supplies at 6:30 then decided to go to the fort to launch, in case the weather got bad and it was easier to load up in a hurry there. It was starting to get good and light when we got to the ramp and there was not a cloud in the sky. We took that as a good sign and headed out to find slick calm conditions.

ImageShack.us We ran straight to our pinfish trap that we left out the night before and found more crabs than fish in it. So we rebaited it and set it back out. Headed over to the refuge line to fish for a while. When I got there the depth finder was acting weird so I checked it and found it kicked up. Fixed it and fished for a while having no luck so we decided to go get the trap and head to the west flats to try. Went back to get the trap and could not find it.

What the heck ...did someone steal it? We kept circling the area looking for it to no avail. I was about to give up when FishingCPA suggested we follow our last track since the transducer had been kicked up. Sure enough we found it 500' away. Whew that was a relief. We left there running out beyond the tripod heading for the west flats. Only we weren't far enough out and ran aground in 1.5' of water... URG! Idled out till we could get on plane again and headed west again. Running along we see some birds working some bait and eased over to net some. Only to find they were to small to stay in the net. Was getting ready to run again when we saw fish busting a school a couple hundred yards away. We ran over there real fast and eased up next to the school and cast out. BAM BAM 2 fish on!

Spanish and a blue. We would catch 5 or 6 ladyfish to an eating fish. But who cares we were having to much fun! We kept getting cut off and having to retie quickly to keep up with the school. I caught several spanish on my only Gotcha before getting cut off, and I tied on a heavy casting spoon. Threw it out...BAM...BAM........BAM..BAM FISH ON. It was a 3' spanish that I fought for a while. and when he got near the boat he made a final run that pulled the split ring off the spoon parting ways. ARRGH. O well back after the school again. FishingCPA hooks a nice and says I think it's a shark with a bunch with it. It comes close enough to see and they are reds about 50 of them! I franticly cast to no avail on a hook up, and FishingCPA yells that a shark is trying to get his fish. I drop my pole and grab the net and scoop it up with the shark right behind it. Once it was in the boat it was time for a hoot and some high fives. In the hour and a half we chased the schools we lost half a dozen lures each and caught 8 spanish,5 blues and a top of the slot red.

...Continuing on... We ran over by Live Oak Island to ftrout fish but nothing was happening. So we ran all the way over to Black Rock to scallop. It was a good move, the scallops were there. We got our limit in about an hour.

ImageShack.us Took a few minutes to eat lunch and talked to Grouper Sandwich on the radio. Then we ran back to the west flats cleaned our scallops and got back to fishing. FishingCPA gets a fish on and he says what the heck have I got? Get it in the boat and it's a pompano. On the grass flats what a surprise. A few casts later he adds a flounder to the box.

ImageShack.us Only added 2 more trout to the box among the many shorts.

Nice birthday. I was Saturday, too. It was nice. We hit a bunch of mackerel in about 20' south east of Live Oak Island.

Congrats! We were out Saturday as well. West flats, 20' depth, Spanish busting on top all over the place! We could hardly keep up with the many schools. Caught 7nice sized Spanish mackerel in no time. Another boat caught some as well and a just under limit red. The weather was a surprise given the forecast. We had a blast!

ImageShack.usWe ended the day cleaning our fish at the fish cleaning station at the fish camp. And throwing the carcasses to the 12 gator hanging out under the dock. I noticed a guy cleaning Lady fish next to me and asked him why. He said I get tired of catching them and was going to try them out. Yuck. I tried to warn him but he said he was going to eat them. We had a great day and have one left to report on....
