I have an old buddy from birmingham vacationing on st joe bay. They haven't scalloped before, but really want to take the young'uns. Are there any scallops in the bay right now? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If I had folks coming from that far away, I wouldn't bother with St. Joe Bay this year. I was there a few weekends ago with my son and spoke to several boats of people scalloping who were not finding many. There were a dozen or so boats in the South end of the bay back toward the fire tower, and about half-dozen boats just outside the channel leading to Presnell's.

Head down to St. Marks and go out of the river, then East to the Black Rock area. You will see the crowd of boats out there. There have been a bunch of scallops in that area, and they are getting bigger as the season winds down.

Good Luck.

Thanks Steve, I reall appreciate it. I know st marks is covered up. St Joe happens to be where they are, and they didn't want to drive. They will swim and fish if they can't scallop, but I thought I heard st joe had picked up.

Had a report from an "unreliable" source that they were finding them between the research station and Black's Island.

We got our limit in St. Joe 2 weeks ago. They were between island and land but up close to shore - about waist deep water and the grass was short and sparse. You had to work for them but they were big. Since the storm, who knows? I'd like a report too. I have friends who have gone and found them too - you have to move around until you find them - they weren't where we found them in years past.
