Im looking for some advice or experiences with the Optimax motors. I found a boat that I want it has a 2007 Mercury Optimax 150 out back. Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with these motors? Are they loud like the old 2 strokes or quieter? etc etc etc. Thanks for the help

The direct-injection design that Optimax is based on was originally developed in Australia. Less moving parts and stress for better dependability. Very fuel efficient, quiet and strong low-end torque (hole shot). Opti engines also weigh considerably less than comparable four-strokes.

Since silverking didn't mention any negatives, cause there really are not any, they are loud and ugly if that matters to you.

I'm not a Mercury fan but I would buy one if it was on a boat that I liked. I have a couple of friends with them and they are very nice motors.

I have a 2006 Opti. If you keep it serviced it's very reliable. Not as loud as the older 2 strokes, not as quiet as a 4 stroke.

I have an 06 Triton 196 TA and it has a 150 Opti. I had been a Yammy fan for ever. This motor is very fuel eff. I would buy another if I needed to. The bottom end on this motor launches my boat up and out of the hole with ease. Make sure to use the DFI oil, very important!!! If not, you and you local boat mechanic will become best friends.

I have a 2006 Optimax. Scared to jinx it, but I have not had any problems. Concur that they are quiet and fuel efficient.
